aEROPRESS BREW GUIDE

The AeroPress brewing method is a popular and versatile way of making coffee. It was invented by Alan Adler, a Stanford University engineer, and has gained a strong following among coffee enthusiasts due to its simplicity and ability to produce a flavorful cup of coffee. The AeroPress consists of a plastic chamber, a plunger, a filter cap, and a paper or metal filter.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use the AeroPress:

1. Start by heating water to the desired brewing temperature. The ideal range is usually between 175°F (79°C) and 205°F (96°C).

2. While the water is heating, prepare the AeroPress by placing a filter inside the filter cap and attaching it to the chamber. You can use either the included paper filters or a reusable metal filter. Pre-wetting the paper filter with hot water can help remove any paper taste and ensure a good seal.

3. Assemble the AeroPress by placing it on top of a sturdy mug or decanter with the chamber facing upwards.

4. Measure out your coffee grounds. The AeroPress typically uses a finer grind than other brewing methods, similar to espresso. Start with a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15 or adjust to your taste preferences.

5. Once the water is heated, wet the coffee filter and preheat the chamber by pouring some hot water into it. This helps maintain a stable brewing temperature.

6. Discard the water from the chamber and add the ground coffee into the AeroPress. Gently shake it to level the coffee bed.

7. Start the brewing process by pouring hot water into the chamber. The brewing time can vary depending on your preference, but a general guideline is to pour about twice the weight of the coffee in water (e.g., for 20 grams of coffee, pour 40 grams of water). Stir the coffee and water mixture for a few seconds to ensure proper extraction.

8. Insert the plunger into the chamber and apply gentle downward pressure to create a vacuum seal. The pressure should be enough to maintain a steady flow but not too forceful. This step is known as "immersion" brewing.

9. Allow the coffee to steep for a recommended time of 1-2 minutes, but feel free to experiment with different brew times to find your preferred strength and flavor.

10. After the steeping time, slowly press the plunger down with steady pressure until you hear a hissing sound. This sound indicates that all the liquid has been extracted from the coffee grounds.

11. Remove the AeroPress from the mug or decanter and dispose of the used coffee grounds and filter.

12. Dilute the brewed coffee with hot water or milk, if desired, to adjust the strength and flavor to your liking.

The AeroPress brewing method offers flexibility, allowing you to experiment with variables such as water temperature, coffee grind size, steeping time, and coffee-to-water ratio. These variables can significantly affect the taste and strength of your coffee, so don't be afraid to adjust them to suit your preferences.
